Chapter Seven

Lasar stared at Chris as terror gripped his throat. Chris. Not Orshana, not it, not human. This man, this slave was his.

And Nary’s. That’s why he disobeyed me, why he said it felt so…

He couldn’t finish his thought. Didn’t dare. The soul match bond was for two beings only. Male with male, male with female, female with female—but never between three at once. It was an abomination. And, dearest heavens, never between Alasharians and humans.

If anyone found out, he had no idea what would happen to them, to his beloved Nary. And my lovely Chris. He winced, his chest aching from the enormity of it all. Would they be imprisoned? Banished? Castrated? There were many unpleasant possibilities.

I need to speak to the Soul Healer.

His sister had to know where Sha Sha Ar was, she never let anything sneak past her. Considering the huge secret he needed to keep, it was a risk, but he couldn’t conceive of any other option than to seek out the Soul Healer, the Alasharians’ spiritual leader. Never had his thoughts been so jumbled or his lack of clarity so weak.

“Nary.” He fought to control his emotions so as not to frighten his Nasha any more than he undoubtedly already had. He gathered up his robe then threw it on over his head.

“Yes, Ahna? Please tell me you’re not ill?”

He wasn’t sure if Nary was trying to protect Lasar’s privacy, or if he’d lapsed into Alasharian out of shock. However, Lasar knew it wasn’t right to shut Chris out. The hurt and fear on his sweet human’s face tore at him.

“Everything’s okay, Nary, Chris.”

He unthinkingly reached for Chris to pet him, then yanked his hand back before they made contact. He needed space, some information.

“Don’t be afraid. Take final meal, then rest. I’ll be back later.”

He turned to go, but Chris called out.

“Master! Wait. Please, I’m sorry. I’m not trained, I’ll do better, I promise. Give me another chance.”

Lasar lowered his head, unable to give Chris the comfort he knew the human needed, knew Nary needed.

He couldn’t look at either one of them. “Have nourishment and I’ll be back soon.”

Lasar grabbed his task device then rushed from the suite before he was compelled to run back to both of them and complete the soul match bond. Even though his body screamed for him to claim Chris, even though his heart cried out for both the slave and his mated lover, it would save them all from what would likely be unending suffering if he could simply let Chris go. There might still be hope. He hadn’t coupled with Chris, so it was possible that he’d stopped the process in time.

He bounded down the stairs, bringing his sister’s code up on the screen of his device. Her husband, the Nall, was traveling the planet meeting with the many commanders who led their own warrior factions at other locales.

No one had been more surprised than him when his sister, Mara, had soul matched with the Supreme Commander, becoming his Sahn.
